How Does a Therapy Dog Assist with Speech & Language Development?
Is it very difficult to convince your child to go to Speech Therapy? Maybe they would rather be playing outside or on their IPAD? What if there was a way to make therapy more fun while also making it more effective!
The SAGE Speech & Learning Associates therapy dog's name is "June". She is a 100 pounds of all white and fluff-- a Great Pyrenees! June is truly the most docile and sweet angel. June is formally registered as an "Emotional Support Animal". And our SLP, Kayde Campbell, has an prescription for her from a doctor. June came from an organic farm in northwest Georgia. Several of June’s siblings were used as working farm dogs. These dogs worked hard protecting the delicate livestock from predators.
June has been visiting public places with our SLP (Target, Walmart, grocery stores, etc.) since the age of 6 months, gaining most of her experience from being around children and elderly individuals.
